The 2004 image was taken by John Glaser of Baltimore at the Chesapeake Forest, 3 miles east of Hurlock, Dorchester County, MD August 16th. It is close to D. merkeli, but is overall darker with grayish AM and PM lines, and most diagnostic, reddish-brown scales dominant on the thorax. Larvae feed on loblolly pine which is very common in the Hurlock area.
