Locally common. Gumbottom Bog, near Arden, A.A. County, May 5th and May 13th. H. subporphyrea is a southeastern noctuid, thought to be confined to coastal North Carolina. This newly discovered Maryland population is found only in a Coastal Plain pitcher plant bog. The presumed food plant, venus flytrap, is not native in our state.
