LeCompte WMA, June 22nd,1995, 3 mile W. Hurlock, July 11th, 1996 and July 20th, 1992, both Dor. County; Assateague Island, July 14th, 1988, Pocomoke State Forest, July 9th and 28th, 1998, Isle of Wight, July 9th, 1998, all Wo. County. The females of achatina are conspicously larger and darker than the male. Occurrence is from Massachusetts to Florida and westward across the southern states to Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. Species of Prionapteryx are not easliy identified and the genus needs revision.
